LOGLINE

KILLER BAD is a superhero-horror comic book, told with 90’s flair! When an elite super-group travels to a remote island to retrieve a powerful artifact, they are stalked by a super-slasher, serial killer. Will this be the final mission for the Sick Squad Six? Friday the 13th meets The Boys.

Written by Jeffrey Burandt (Ghost Planet, Odd Schnozz & the Odd Squad), art by Jason Goungor (Megadeth: Death by Design, The Brooklynite), with logo, lettering and design by Jeff Powell (Infidel, Deadly Class). “Killer Bad the 13th,” Kickstarter exclusive, variant cover by Paul Ciaravino (Americans UK).

PREVIEW PAGES

Character Bible

  • WAR WOUND is an evil scientist’s mad experiment gone right. A swarm of self replicating, voodoo-infused nanites circulates through his blood stream, metaphysically reversing any attack on his person. You cut him, you bleed, you dig? Otherwise, he’s dead inside. He’s been having suicidal thoughts, recently, and he thinks he may be a sociopath. Maybe his assignment as the newest member of the super-powered outfit known as, “Sick Squad Six.” will lift his spirits.
  • DEATH CHEATER is tough, mean and can’t be killed. The biggest badass on the block and he knows it, Death Cheater lives a consequence-free life of murder and mayhem as a founding member of the Sick Squad Six. This new War Wound guy is really getting under his skin, no doubt.
  • MOLLY X is the super-seductress alter-ego of Malakiva Xin, a low-level psychic and highly accredited bioengineer. Her abilities make her interlocutors euphoric in her presence, and she easily manipulates her marks by making them dumb and horny with her hallucinogenic mind waves. Then she turns them into super monsters. It’s easy to fall hard for Molly X, cuz you trip all the way down.
  • BREAK SPEED is a pretty boy, super speedster and the team’s field leader. Former captain of his high school football team, now he quarterbacks for the special ops team of augmented anti-heroes known as the Sick Squad Six, even if it’s the super shadowy Mission Control that’s calling all the plays.

TRIANGLE OF TRUTH calls KILLER BAD #1, “Super Dope!”

Yo Gabba Gabardine

This is one my favorite comix I’ve produced to date, starring JTR3 and me from our sci-fi rock band Americans UK, and co-starring The Ramones, Donna Summers, Debbie Harry, and featuring quite a few cameos. Please enjoy.  yogab1yogab2yogab3yogab4yogab5yogab6yogab7yogab8

A little behind the scenes: I needed to fill 8 pages in an anthology I was self-publishing at the time, and my long-time friend Sam Vaughan pitched a longer story to me that was the same page length, but had, like, 9 to 12 panels per page, and so I edited that down to a plot based upon the big beats of Sam’s longer story, and scripted from there, using Sam’s exact dialogue from his initial submission for some scenes, adding or combining with my own for others. Then I roped in artist John Mathias, who played bass in Americans UK at the time, and who illustrated the comic using this amazing, seedy-Archie-like style. My pal Ben did a great job lettering all that jibber jabber! A wonderful collaboration all around, we created this Americans UK gem.

“Yo Gabba Gabardine” first appeared in print in Americans UK Rocktronic Mixtape 2, and online at the now defunct literary salon, Trip City.

SH3: Human Hunter

I see a similarly named (and great looking) book running a successful Kickstarter, so I thought I’d share this short story I published in 2012 that spun out of the planned ending for the Americans UK comic book series (that we never finished–one day, perhaps). SH3 tells the story of a super-android lady who is responsible for the near extinction of humans, and is trying to round up and save the remaining survivors, in an attempt to redeem herself. It was imagined as sort of a reverse Magnus, Robot Fighter. Written by Jeffrey Burandt, illustrated and colored by Paul Ciaravino, logo designed and lettered by Jeff Powell, “SH3: Human Hunter,” was first published on the now-defunct, online magazine, Trip City on August 1, 2012.

SH3 is an android who navigates a hellish dystopia of her own making, attempting to rebuild a world that she helped destroy, and save humanity from the brink of extinction.
